Discussion on what should be considered in finding the "Big Idea" for a project
To find the "Big Idea" for a project, a teacher must first scan teaching guides and review the curriculum standards for all subjects. The next step is getting students and parents involved on a project, such as Wiki. Wiki helps others get involved and work collectively on a certain project. Finding the big idea for a project consist of concepts, and why those concepts are important. Once students interpret and see who cares about a topic and who does it touch, they find the big idea of a project.
Discussion on the 21st Century skills
The 21st century skills consist of many things. One of the skills are analyzing a project by explaining, investigating, comparing, and characterizing characteristic of a project. Evaluating is another skill that helps students judge, select, improve, defend, and asses a project. Last but not least, is the skill to create. Create consist of adapting, combining, inventing, imagining, and formulating a project. All these skills help plan a project, and even strengthen the understanding of the "Big Idea". There are also verbs that play a role in the 21st Century Skills. They are Traditional biography assignments and Reconsidered biography assignments.
Discussion on the 21st Century literacies
21st Century literacies focus on Digital-Age Literacy, Inventive Thinking, Effective Communication, and High Productivity . Literacy helps individuals achieve their goals, develop knowledge, potential, and participate in society. Literacy is great for students because it helps them learn how to be independent, aware, and productive citizens.
Discussion on each of the essential learning functions
Ubiquity: Learning Inside and Outside the Classroom, and All the time: are tools that support project learning. Theses tools are great for students learning, because they teach them how to be more mobile and learn wherever they are, and whomever they want. Example of tools are, Ipods, Smart phones, Web mail, and Google Docs.
Deep Learning: Goes beyond and helps students find and make sense of authentic information on the web. High-order thinking play a huge role in deep learning .
Making Things Visible and Discussable: Helps shows rather than tell . It helps examine history with visual representation.
Expressing Ourselves, Sharing Ideas, Building Community: Is about expressing ourselves with personal interaction. Students can use the web to express their ideas and build society.
Collaboration:Teaching and Learning with Others: are tools that helps us learn together. For example, Wiki.
Research: helps students make sense and organize what they need for a project.
Project Management: Planning and Organization: helps students manage time , work, sources, products during projects, and feedback from others.
Reflection and Iteration: Consist of examining your ideas and from other points of view to improve and polish work.
Discussion on how concepts in this chapter relate to your topic/project
Concepts in this chapter relate to our topic because staying healthy is about learning new things about the body, staying update on new nutrition, and communicating with others to learn about healthy lifestyles. We all are doing a great job of researching and communicating, to help others in our community.
