Cameron McCririe Reading Reflection #1

Discussion on what you need to keep in mind as you start the journey through Project-Based Learning (PBL).
When you are doing a Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach you need to be able to communicate well with your group members. There should be a team leader that will make sure group members are on task. Teachers can design projects as a framework of learning to keep the students engaged.  Project-Based Learning allows students to have a choice, and allow for active learning and teamwork.

Discussion on the overall benefits of the PBL approach.
Students work together to solve problems that are important to them. These problems can be real world problems to help them understand that what needs to be done or what can be done. The PBL focuses on technology, teamwork, confidence, and allows teachers to help students achieve learning goals.

Discussion on the benefits to students who participate in PBL.
Students gain experience, learn how to work in teams, and think creatively. Students will be able to think critically instead of the typical sitting in the classroom and being lectured by the teacher to memorize the information and not apply it.

Discussion on what issues need to be considered in PBL approach.
Some issues with PBL is that it takes a large amount of time to do and the training that is needed for teachers to transition to this new way of teaching.

Discussion on New Technology High as an example of New Technology Model.
New Technology High allows the students to become more critical thinkers instead of just solving a problem without any consideration as to why they solved it. It helps students to become better time managers and the technology helps in them becoming a function member of society.

  1. I really liked how you talked about the benefits and the struggles of PBL. I think it is important to realize that this does take more time as a teacher and is a new way of teaching so getting used to it may take time. PBL will benefit the students though, through a new way of thinking and interacting with each other and the community that will help them throughout their lives. This will be a great service that teachers will provide to students, so that is awesome! Great Job!
